A temporary support, for use in the dyeing and printing of cationically dyeable substrates such as (mod)acrylic fibres, comprises a heat stable sheet bearing on at least one face a thin layer of a binder bontg. a cationic dye and a second layer of (opt. the same) binder contg an agent (I) capable of exchanging the anion of the cationic dye to make it heat transferable. The cationic dye may be deposited on the support without prior conversion to a transferable salt or base; the dyes have good storage stability; cationic and disperse dyes may be used together.
