High voltage power switch for capacitative loads - has double pump system of light design and low fluid volume

A high voltage power switch, using a small volume of quenching fluid, and needing relatively low operating power, is suitable for switching heavy short circuit currents or capacitative loads. In addition to the normal pump associated with the switch mechanism is a further pump with its inlet side connected to a special channel and its output side to the quenching chamber. Between the two sides of the pump is fitted an excess pressure valve, responding at a predetermined pressure. The normal pump operating when the switch breaks contact may be combined with the additional pump to form a single unit. The arrangement ensures the pumping of quenching fluid for the rapid extinction of the arc.
