A platform for drilling into the seal bed is positioned by sinking a pontoon carrying a telescopic tripod, so that its back end touches bottom whilst the front end is held at the surface. The tripod is moved into the vertical and the legs are spread. The platform, attached to the tripod is then lifted above water level by activating the telescopic mechanism. A safe and cheap method for positioning a platform to carry a boring rig and its equipment in water deeper than 50m and up to 250m in depth.
