The slip coupling avoids increasing the original axial displacement of the coupling by setting the flux through both excitation windings separately such that the differential magnetic flux produced by differing fluxes passes mainly through the plate-like retaining element. The excitation coil current passes via three slip rings, of which one is connected to the common connection point of both coils. This common slip ring is used for the small difference current. The difference flux is obtained by measuring its tangential component. The measured axial displacement ouses from axial distribution of the induced coupling force.
