Component lead automatic cutting and bending machine - uses relatively simple mechanism with only one rotating shaft to which component strips are fed directly

A relatively simple machine is used for automatically cutting and binding electronic leads, on a production line basis. Only one rotating shaft is used (1) and this carries two arrays of teeth (7) which engage the components (4) typically small resistors - as they are fed in a strip directly into the apparatus. These teeth force the component leads against stationary knife elements (12) which cut them at a point determined by a further set of moving teeth (7a) attached to the driving shaft, and engaging the component leads. The component strip, without the components, is ejected via a guide whilst the components, with shortened leads bent at right angles at the correct place, are ejected below the apparatus on another guide. A suitably bent forked metal cover (23) completes the mechanism.
