For supplying power &c. to a movable mechanism e.g. a carriage which moves along a spinning machine to service it as described in Specification 1,189,521, at least one supply line 7 extends to the carriage 9 from terminal 5 at fixed positions beneath the machine and passes between its ends over a reel 11 rotatably supported in a movable frame 10; the frame carries a pulley 12 forming a bight in a cable 13 attached at one end to the carriage and at the other end to a fixed point, the arrangement being such that the reel is moved in response to, and at a different rate from, the movement of the carriage. To form the bight, the cable takes the path shown over pulleys 15, 16 and is secured at one end 17 to a connector 8 by which the line is connected to the carriage, and at the other end to a spring 14, anchored to a fixed part. The reel 11 moves in a U-shaped track 6; one line may be for electricity and one for compressed air.
