A burner for a natural gas/air mixture having a cylindrical middle channel and at least two holed disc bounded expansion chambers surrounding it, has for one with natural gas at 200 mm WG (pressre) at least two further expansion chambers (16, 17) surrounding the innermost expansion chamber (15) which has two apertures (22) cut into it. Each of the additional expansion chambers (16, 17) has at least three regularly arrayed holes (20, 21) connected to the middle channel (14) originating in the middle channel (14) via a stepped cross section reduction. The apertures (20-22) of adjacent expansion chambers (15-17) are arranged at half turn intervals of separation from each other.
