The brake parachute for supply drop has a series of trapezoidal panels (2) sewn into a pyramid shape, when inflated. A hole at the apex (5) spills out the air collected under the canopy, which is non porous. When extended, the half diameter (e) of the canopy is less than the height of the pyramid. The cross sectional area of the hole is about 1% of the total area of the canopy. - The airflow under the canopy prevents it from flattening even in high winds. The load is dropped in a near vertical trajectory with high accuracy, and with a minimum of swinging. The terminal speed is slow enough to prevent damage to the load.
