The automatic mapping instrument generates a map from stereo pairs, in which parallax erros are reduced without loss of resolving power. Electronic scanners generate two video signals from the stereo pair, which are fed to a reproducer controlled by one of them, whilst a separate generator generates a raster deflecting signal. A signal correlator generates a signal proportional in known fashion, to the time difference between homologous components of the two video signals, and raster shapers connected to the correlator and scanner correct one of the signals to remove distortion. In addition, a circulating store and a delay circuit are inserted between the signal correlator and the raster shaper to achieve a greater degree of transformation which can be adjusted for the reduction of parallax or other errors.
