Inflatable pad stopping filling system for use in mines as explosion, gas etc. barrier in roadways relies on an entry and sealing valve in the pad base and a relief valve in the upper part. The pad is first filled with pressurised gas (5) until it adapts to the roadway section, whereupon the pad is filled with a pressure fluid (4) which drives the original gas out and only leaves enough to form a pressure cushion inside the pad. Preferably the gas should be introduced at overpressure of 800 mm. WG, using separate entries for gas (22) and fluid, each fitted with a fluid level indicator. The pad should preferably be semi-cylindrical in shape, and may be coupled to a pulse filling line and is controlled from a remote centre.
