The mechanism is partic. for stacking grabs handling shaped bricks etc. having three or more elastic intermediate pieces near the outer edges of the load support, while feelers detect alteration in the relative position of lifting mechanism and support and stop or reverse the hoist drive. The intermediate pieces are situated near the plane parallel to the support and passing through the centre of gravity of the latter. They have electrical feelers detecting the stresses caused by the forces acting on the support. Their signals are delivered to an electronic comparator, emitting a stop and/or reverse signal on the occasion of an alteration in load caused by an obstruction.
