Into the starting materials for fused glassy or cement products is incorporated between 1 and 20% wt. of flue gas or filter dust having a surface are of 20 m2/g. For glass this addition is pref. made as part replacement of flux. It can also be added to lime gypsum, cement and clay in connection with plaster board, wood and mineral fibre board manufacture in which case the setting temp. has to be suitably fixed to obtain optimum mech. strength. In glass manufacture the reinforcing action is due to the enhanced high temp. oxide strength of the dust which is derived from manufacture, of suitable ferro alloys such as those of Mn, Si Cr.
