A roller-drier for veneer, cardboard and similar material, has top rollers connected with driven carrier rollers at one or both side by a pair of spur wheels, and is improved by the top rollers consisting of an inner tube rigidly fixed to the roll shafts and an outer tube which is split transversely into a number of sections of uniform length. These sections can be moved radially, independently of each other, with respect to the inner tube and are rotated by contact with at least one of three projections or pairs of projections on the surface of the inner tube. Normal spur wheels can be used to drive the top rollers.
