摘要
A means for centering hollow rotating bodies with thin walls, where the ends of the bodies must butt together for welding, esp. electron beam welding, the novelty being that the ends of the bodies or shells are provided with coaxial, mating, truncated cone surfaces. The pref. device provides a V-shaped projection in the end surface of one shell, and a matching V-groove in the end surface of the other shell. For steel shells with a wall thickness 1 mm, the included angle of the V is pref. 120 degrees and for walls 1 mm the angle is pref. max. 120 degrees. For non-ferrous metals, the included angle of the V for walls 1 mm is pref. 90-120 degrees and for walls 1 mm thick 90 degrees. Welding thin wall shells, esp. into containers, where the dia. of the shells is esp. 200-1000 mm and the ratio of wall thickness:dia. is usually 1:50. Method gives accurate alignment of the shells prior to welding.
