Hood for a system with prebaked, anodes operating electrolysis furnace for the production of aluminum

A hood for an electrolysis furnace employed for Al prodn using pre-baked anodes, is located above the furnace and used for the extn. of volatile substances. The hood consists of a number of inclined lids arranged next to each other along the sides of the hood, the lids being connected to levers mounted on drive shafts located behind the anodes. Each lid is mounted on an angled suspension above sloping guide rails, one arm of the suspension being mounted on a lever and the free end of the suspension rests on the next lever in the row. The hood pref. includes horizontal sections on which the drive shafts and levers are mounted. Separate sections of the hood can be selectively opened so the overall efficiency of the extn. system is not impaired, thus improving working conditions for the furnace-men and reducing the amt. of electric powder needed to operate the extn. system.
