The visual data apparatus presents e.g. signs or symbols on a c.v.t. unit with monitors having arrangements for holding signs and vectors in readiness. Vector image data are stored in condensed form while maintaining their separate identities and special characteristics such as colour, grey value, or intensity. The individual monitor channels are selectively connected to a multiplexer. A small calculator or similar ascertains the beginning point, the direction, and the length of the vector to be shown. A vector segment coder is connected to the input of the calculator to deliver a series of vector segment words. A priority intermediate register is connected to the coder and receives vector segment words with X and Y start points and co-ordinate values and stores these staged words according to similar Y value.
