Coke oven heating walls repairs - using jointless concrete replacement header with one sides expansion joints for new stretchers

When the heating walls of coke oven batteries have to be partly renewed, any remaining headers are removed and a spacer, made of concrete with little thermal elongation at the working temperature is built on the remaining masonry. This spacer represents a header which has widened abutment faces for the rear sides of the stretches of old and new masonry and has an expansion joint facing the new masonry. This simplifies the work connected with building a spacer between old and new masonry and saves labour. The spacer can be designed for any strength considered necessary.
