The winding installation transforms long webs of paper or foil into coreless track rolls. It supplies the web at a constant speed, and a rotating conveyor band takes it up at a constant base speed. There are winding rollers with turnable bearings on swivel levers located above the conveyor band which release the track rolls after attaining the required roll diameter for onward movement by the conveyor band. - A contact band (15) is positioned above the conveyor band (14), separated by a distance corresponding to the roll diameter, and moving in the opposite direction at the conveyor band's base speed. After operation of the transverse cutting device a positive speed is superimposed for a short period to both the drive of the conveyor band (14) and the winding rollers (13).
