The device is for joining the edges of folding cardboard boxes or webs of paper, cardboard, plastic, wood, etc. with adhesive strips. It comprises a roller (1) from which the adhesive strip (2) is unwound, a cutter (3), and a conveyor belt (5) or rollers for conveying the strip to a heater (10), with a retractable shield (11) or throttle valve between the heater and conveyor belt. Pref. the heater is an IR emitter, the conveyor is a belt which runs parallel to the heater in a vacuum box (6), and the retracting device for the shield consists of double-acting pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders (13) or magnetic control means. In extension of a conveyor belt (8) for cardboard box blank (7) is a pressing zone with pairs of rollers (14a, 14b, 15a, 15b) which are partially formed by guide rollers (14a) for the conveyor belt for the adhesive strip.
