1320273 Pressure-sensitive record material NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO 5 Oct 1971 [19 Oct 1970] 46222/71 Heading D2B A pressure-sensitive record material carrying isolated droplets of an oil solution of basic, colourless, chromogenic dye-precursor material and/or of acid-reacting polymeric material is characterised in that the oil is a halogen-free oil consisting wholly of or including biaryl compounds selected from isopropylbiphenyl, polyisopropylbiphenyl, and biphenyl, at least 30% by wt. of the total biaryl compound content being isopropylbiphenyl, not more than 55% by wt. being polyisopropylbiphenyl, and not more than 15% by wt. being biphenyl. The halogen-free oil may include an aliphatic hydrocarbon having a distillation range of 160‹-288‹C, a C 10 -C 15 alkylbenzene, an aromatic hydrocarbon, an organic acid ester, phosphate ester, or diphenyl oxide. The dye precursor may be Crystal Violet lactone, Malachite Green lactone, N-(2, 5-dichlorophenyl) leucauramine, N-benzoyl leucauramine, Methyl Red, 4-aminoazobenzene, Rhodamine # lactam, or 8'-methoxybenzoindolinospiropyran. The acid reacting polymeric material may be a phenol-aldehyde resin.
