Gas fired heater with storage heater - has burner controlled to operate through heat exchanger during off peak hours

The gas-fired heater comprises a heat exchanger (2) for transferring heat from the outgoing air from the room to be heated, to the ingoing air. The gas outlet stream (10) of the gas burner (11) impinges on a heat-storage composition (6), then flows in combination with the outgoing air stream (9) through the heat exchanger. At least part (4) of the ingoing air stream (3) can be conducted over the heat-storage composition. - Operation of the gas burner may be controlled according to the temp. of the outgoing air (9, 12) before it enters the heat exchanger. The part of the ingoing air stream which flows through the heat-storage composition may be controlled according to the heat requirements of the room (8) to be heated. The installation reduces the gas consumption in peak hours, i.e. mainly in the morning.
