Sugar is recovered from molasses by (a) passing mechanically purified molasses over a deionising resin, which is regenerated periodically, (b) eluting the resin with sugar solns. and water, (c) dividing the eluate into several fractions, (d) using the purest fraction for the extraction of sugar, (e) recycling fractions with a suitable concn. and purity for elution of the resin, and (f) eliminating from the treatment cycle the most impure fractions. Pure sugar is recovered.
