Reaction prods. (I) of a phosphoric acid cpd. of formula (R-O)n-P(=O)-X (in which R is 1-5C alkyl or haloalkyl, n = 0.5-2.5 X is OH or halogen), with 1,2-epihalohydrin and N-methylol cpds. (II) are incorporated in printing pastes, finishing or coating compsns. to give textiles a flame-retardant finish which is resistant to washing and dry cleaning. The compsn. can be used in textile finishes and also in flame-retardant printing pastes for incombustible textiles. Thus, it ensures retention of flame retardancy in glass fabrics after printing and also prevents detriment to the flame retardancy of other substrates.
