Force measuring instrument of versatile construction - uses conical bending rod with attached strain gauges

An instrument for the measurement of force uses a round bending rod of conical profile. The cone angle is chosen to ensure even extension under load of strain gauges mounted on the rod. The gauges are arranged in pairs connected together or placed opposite each other in one or two bridge circuits. On the free (loaded) end of the rod may be one or more grooves or cuts. Variation of their number and relative distances enables the sensitivity of the device to be altered without changing the electrical circuit sensitivity. Sensitivity may also be varied by changing the diameter of an axial boring in the rod. The force to be measured may be applied via linkages.
