The magnetic induction hover train has two sets of superconducting coils (8, 9) which induced eddy currents in a non magnetic support track (10) between the coils. In order to minimise the magnetic drag without using a complicated null-flow circuit, the two sets of coils are positioned with their axes at right angles to each other. One of the sets of coils can be used as part of a linear induction drive which results in considerable weight saving. The drive for the train is by a linear synchronous motor. The system is intended for speeds in excess of 400 km/h.
