The automatic transmission vehicle is fitted with a single safety pedal which takes up the whole width of the driving position so that the driver can rest either or both feet on it. The pedal is tilted conventionally to operate the throttle. To operate the brakes the whole pedal is pushed bodily away from the driver, with the pedal assembly sliding on floor mounted guide rails. the brakes can thus be applied with a minimum delay and without having to move feet between pedals. The driver's feet cannot slide from the pedal and the braking action is simpler. The pedal linkage is simplified and the system is ideally suited for invalid drivers.
