Resistance butt welding chain links to make chains - where two or more links are simultaneously clamped, welded and upset

Resistance welding the ends of bent, C-shaped chain links in a row of links where the links in one plane of the two are successively clamped and welded, using welding current applied to the ends of the links, pref. for flash butt welding, and upsetting. The novelty is that two links (A,B) sepd. by a third link (C) are clamped and the welding current is applied to the front leg of link (A) and the rear leg of link (B), using an electrical connection between the two links (A, B) and the simultaneous upsetting of both links (A, B). The pref. machine uses a thrust pad between links (A, B) so they can be clamped and upset, a conducting bridge carrying the current between links (A, B). Output is increased by the simultaneous welding of two or more links.
