The circuit board tester compares the layout of the board under examination with that of a correct standard board by alternately bringing the two boards in to the field of view of the test engineer so that any differences show up as jumps. The standard board and test board (2,8) are located side by side and viewed simultaneously (stereoscopically) using two identical systems of mirrors. A sliding screen (7) alternately cuts off the engineer's view of one of the boards. Alternatively, both boards can be contained in separate dark compartments and illuminated alternately.
