Demountable ballast for keel boat - with profiled shape to fit into keel from underside and secured by horizontal struts

The bottom of the keel (14) has a cavity open to the bottom to contain a ballast weight (12) which is shaped to fit snugly into the space. The weight is secured by horizontal struts pushed through holes in the keel and weight. The system enables the boat to be lifted over the weight for easy fitting. The weight is made up of a series of smaller sigments joined by a bracing strut (16) through the middle. The system is suitable for demountable keels, and provides a more secure fitting than if it was dropped through a hull hole into the hollow keel, from where it can only be removed by hoisting it back up into the hull.
