The appts. disclosed on the parent Application is used for transversely cutting continuous yarns wrapped round a pref. cylindrical, rotatably supported roll and esp. longitudinally moving synthetic fibre rovings, strips, etc. which for treatment are partly wrapped round the rolls of drafting system, contact drier or a washing machine. The cutting equipment is associated with a cutting edge-installed at a slope in the cutter device reciprocatable movable along the zone of the roll not covered by the material. The cutting blade engages an endless groove running peripherally round the roll extending over the working width and cut. The cutter blade is improved by forming it with an angular or curvilinear notch. Prevents run-off of the yarn to be cut and ensures a constant position of the cutting blade in the groove.
