In a plant for casting hollow metal ingots by electroslag remelting, the top surface of the mould base is fitted with at least two projecting teeth of width matching the gap between the mould and the core. The height and length of the teeth are commensurable with the width. The teeth pref. taper upwards. Alternatively, the mould base may be fitted with recesses in which interchangeable teeth are inserted.
