Non-skid coatings are applied from coating compsns. contg. a thermoplastic silicone rubber compsn. which can be stored with exclusion of water but hardens to elastomers at room temp. in the presence of water. Permanent, slip-proof linings can be applied, e.g., to carpets covering smooth floors, e.g., parquet, stone tiles, linoleum or PVC. Examples describe lining (i) carpets and (ii) a china plate or cup base. Bond between silicone rubber compsn. and matl. to be coated has unlimited life and retains slip-proofness. Slip-proof coating resists cleaning and repels oils and fats. Moisture-hardening silicone rubber paste contained Si-OH and gp.-carrying dimethyl polysiloxanes, TiO2 and pyrogenic silica. Paste was coated, as a 0.5 mm. layer, on base of a china plate, and hardened in air. Bond formed resisted fequent washing.
