Spark ignition four stroke engine swirl chamber - has electric heating element round swirl chamber in cylinder head

I.C. engine has a main cylinder (4) which is supplied with a weak fuel air mixture. Within they cylinder head is a swirl chamber (2) separated from the cylinder by an opening (3) and supplied with a strong fuel air mixture. The sparking plug (6) is in the swirl chamber and the flame passing through the opening (3) ignites the mixture in the main cylinder (4). There is a recess (8) in the cylinder head forming an annulus round the swirl chamber. Within this recess there is an electric heating element (11) which is separated from the wall of the swirl chamber by a sleeve (10) of thermally conducting metal oxide and which is insulated from the back of the recess by a sleeve of thermally insulating material.
