Carbonate slurry in the sugar industry is processed by pre-drying in an ascending gas stream, calcinating the solids in a heat treatment chamber and passing the waste gases through a ust separator. The discharged solids from the dust separator are passed in a worm conveyor, a part is extracted for a mixer and the remainder goes to a buffer tank. It is combined with the fine dust from a filter and the mixture is introduced into the heat treatment chamber. Process prevents the gradual increase in fine dust concn. in the system which could lead to serious losses of prodn.
