Rotatable internal knee joint prosthesis - permits easy manipulation during implantation and simulates normal knee movement

A knee joint prosthesis allows bending in the direction of walking through at least 120 deg. from the extended position of the leg, and bidirectional rotation in a direction perpendicular to that of bendings. When the leg is extended, no rotation can occur, but when it is bent at 90 deg., rotation of 10-15 deg. is allowed, and is controlled by two guides and an intermediate sliding counter-member. Rotation is possible (a) symmetrically in both directions and proportionally to the angle of bending, (b) symmetrically in both directions and non-proportionally to the angle of bending, (c) symmetrically and proportionally, (d) asymmetrically and non-proportionally. A sliding shield may be connected releasably to the thigh portion as required.
