A design for the moving section of railway points, is for use with heavy, high speed traffic. It prevents vertical motion of the points. A rail (1) is fixed to a locking housing (2) containing a points mechanism guide (6) along which a forked lever (5) can be pushed by an actuating unit (7) underneath it, which is in turn driven from the points driving mechanism. The far end of the lever (5) is connected to the shaped second rail of the points (3) by means of a mounting block (4). The lever (5), when in the points closed position, fits between a raised portion of the actuating unit (7) and a recessed portion of the guide (6), so that undesirable vertical movement in the closed points is avoided.
