When a process is in progress and a request for access to the buffer store (SSP) is made, the selected storage group address is recorded in the control unit (SST) by intermediate storage of its address, so that the storage area of the process is determined. When a process is changed, the group address is transferred to the main store (HSP). When the process is again activated by a processor of the data processing installation (ZP), the information is first read out from the main store on the storage area used up to now, and corresponding groups in the main store are sequentially read out and transferred to the buffer store, if they have been displaced by processing of other processes.
