The electrically powered hand tool has a hollow pistol grip handle (10') housing a switch (11). The on-off switch is actuated by a lever (12) which projects through a hole in the handle in a convenient position for the user's fingers. The lever (12) has two recesses side by side which engage with the tongue (13') of the lever (13) which actuates the switch controlling the direction of rotation. The lever (13) is first set to the required direction of rotation. The lever (12) is then depressed to switch on the motor and at the same time it locks the lever (13) in its set position.
