The structural unit to adorn graves is in the form of a gravestone. It incorporates an open sheath made of transparent plastic, in the form of a receptacle. This is compactly filled with an opaque filling of expanded concrete, or other relatively light material. This protrudes through the sheat opening in the form of a plinth. The plinth is fitted with an air and moisture sealed covering which overlaps the outside opening edge of the sheath. The sheath may have light-resistant material on its surface, at intervals, to provide outwardly recognisable inscriptions. There may be a central hollow space in the filling.
