Polygonal waveform generator - approximates any signal using independently set sample values and D:A techniques and closer sampling when signal varies rapidly
The function generator approximates to any function by interpolation. A clock generator (1) drives an address counter (2) which feeds a store (3). This holds the current and adjacent addresses. These numbers are used in an algorithum in the linear interpolator consisting of two subtraction units (5, 6), a divider (7) and a multiplier (10) with DA conversion. Each counted address represents a time at which an analogue value set up on one of a set of potentiometers (8) is sampled (4). This sampled output is processed by an analogue subtractor (9) and adder (11) supplied also by the digital to analogue converter (10). The sampling intervals may be shortened for rapidly varying functions.
