The flange design is suitable for use in an automatic welding operation. There is an edging disc (2) with L-shaped cross section and inner dia. equal to the outer dia. of the pipe. This fits at the pipe end with a sealing surface (5) running radially outwards from the pipe centre. It is welded to the pipe at two points (3, 6). A detachable flange (8) with shaped edge (10) is welded to the disc. This provides the support for the holding bolts.
