The timing switch is provided with an indicator lamp whose switching is delayed in a temperature-dependent manner matched to the desired preglow period. The lamp indicates the start readiness of the engine. The timing switch contains a bridge circuit whose one branch incorporates a temperature-dependent resistor (10), measuring the engine temperature. The other bridge branch contains a temperature-dependent time element (T). The diagonal of the bridge circuit incorporates a switching element (T1), connected to the indicator lamp (L) via further switching elements (t2, T3). Preferably the bridge circuit has in the second branch a resistor (18) for connection of the switching element (T1). TEmperature stabilisation for the switching element (T1) may also be provided.
