The length measuring machine consists of a bed-plate on which are mounted horizontal guide rails. A sliding anvil block is fitted with a short-stroke translation device with measuring bolt. A second sliding block which supports the end of a measuring rod. The rod can be clamped by a set-screw. Its rear end carries a transparent, graduated scale which moves parallel to a second fixed transparent scale. Both from part of a photo-electric detector comprising light-emitting diodes and photo-diodes. Analogue or digital indication of longitudinal movement is a shown on a instrument panel.
