The character repeating circuit, for teleprinters, allows the character last entered on the electronic keyboard to be repeated any number of times simply by depressing a 'continuous repeat' key. (The keyboard consists of a matrix whose crosspoints are assigned bridging switches. A counter periodically samples these crosspoint switches via a decoder and multiplier. The counter's contents (with a crosspoint switch closed) initiate the transfer of a characteristic code to an output memory). The 'continuous repeat' key operates logic that blocks the transfer of the characteristic code to the memory and at the same time produces a repeat signal to which the output memory responds. This repeat signal continues until the key is released.
