Using a bottle-cleaning machine (10), a filling machine (11), a sealing machine (12) and a sterilising filter (13), the bottles are treated on the inside and on the outside with hot water at 85 to 95 DEG C in the last spraying station before unloading from the cleaning machine (10) and are then, as they are conveyed to the filling and sealing machines (11, 12), held at a temperature of 65 to 70 DEG C within a sterilised laminar ventilation system (15) which ventilates the conveying path from the bottle delivery of the cleaning machine (10) to the filling and sealing machines (11, 12) and is screened off from the outside. The drinking liquids are sterilised before drawing-off by means of the sterilising filter (13) at room temperature and are poured into the bottles at a temperature of 15 to 20 DEG C, and then the bottles are immediately sealed with sterile seals. In order to reduce the risk of bottle breakages, especially in the case of returned bottles, the bottles are cooled in one or more stages to 45 to 50 DEG C inside the laminar ventilating system (15) by means of air or liquid which has been introduced to the said system (15) and is at least free of germs which are harmful to drinks, and are fed to the filling machine at this temperature.
