Pressed plastics plant tray with tunnels between plant sites - has absorbent wick running through tunnels for watering plants

The foamed plastics tray has several staggered rows of cups (1) to hold the earth in which the plants are to grow. Between each cup and the next is a drainage tunnel (2) whose bottom aligns with the bottom of the cups. Through the lines of drainage tunnels a horizontal length of absorbent wick (6) runs from cup to cup. At one end, the wick is raised to a higher level as it passes through the edge of the tray: outside the tray it hangs down. The plants are watered from the other end of the wick. The water the plant cups receives from the initially dry wick remains in them as long as required. When and only when, water is put on the higher-lying drainage end of the dry wick, it, too, becomes absorbent, and the cups are drained by siphonage.
