Solar radiation collector for hot water heating - has reflector and absorber proportioned to give constant energy absorption

Collector is contained in a housing with a transparent outer case exposed on the east, south and west sides. At the back of the housing there is a reflector and an absorber is mounted between the reflector and the transparent casing. The absorber consists of a plate through which a pipe coil runs. Water to be heated flows through this coil and is taken to a suitable storage vessel. The absorber receives direct radiation on its front surface and reflected radiation on its back. The absorber and reflector are so dimensioned and positioned that as the sun moves round the reflector magnifies the surface exposed to radiation in the same proportion as the projected collector face area decreases.
