Extraction of sugar from beet - with process condensate treated to recover ammonia which is used to neutralise waste or recycle water

In the recovery of sugar from sugar bett the NH3-contg. condensate produced by evaporation of the sugar-contg. beet juice is freed from NH3 by press. reduction. The NH3 released is then used to make alkaline accumulated or recycled water in the sugar mfg. process, esp. beet transport or washing water. Pref. the condensate is prayed, while at the temp. at which it was formed or after further heating, into a low press. zone and the NH3 used to neutralize process water contg. acids formed by decomposition of sugar. The nearly NH3-free water left can be used for extracting sugar from the beet; as solvent for raw sugar or auxiliaries, or, after ion-exchange treatment, as solvent, diluent or wash water in the ion-exchange plant. Slaked lime is no loner needed to neutralise the acidic waste waters.
