X-Ray contrast media for inhalation bronchography without incubation comprises a powdered, iodine-contg. organic cpd. (I) of sparing solubility, as shading agent. Suitably (I) is a dicarboxylic acid di(2,4,6-trioodoanilide) deriv., opt. having the hydrocarbon chain interrupted by 1-40 atoms. The following salts are new: Ca salts of 3,6,9-trioxa-undecane-1, 11-dioyl-bis(3-carboxy-2,4,6-triidoanilide), or 3', 6'-dioxasuberic acid bis-(2,4,6-triido-3-carboxyanilide). the Ca and Mg salts of 4,7,10,13-tetraoxahexadecane-1, 16-dioyl-bis(3-carboxy-2,4,6-triiodoanilide) and Mg amidotrizoate. The use of powders rather than solns. or suspensions simplifies and reduces the time required for visualisation of the bronchial tree. (I) cause no irritation, give excellent visualisation without migration into the alveoli, and are fully eliminated in 24 hr.
