Thyristor control modifies an asynchronous three-phase motor's rpm-torque characteristic curve to a hyperbola, rapidly maintaining constant strip winding tension, with fine response. A tension positioned strip loop controls a thyristor, varying one phase about a mean setting. The transformer supplied motor (M) winds a coil (Sp). Tensioned (W) strip passes around a variable drop loop (P). Loop travel rotates a cam (B), setting an inductor transducer (S), feeding a pulse generator (JG) setting the thyristor's firing time. The pulse generator's supply derives from a transformer across the motor's transformer and star centre point, with zener diode stabilization.
